![]() I went to a HP product again, because I'd bought a HP Pavillion computer package previously and was blown away by their customer service. I purchased this product because my last printer was worn out. When I've run this one into the ground it's back to HP again for me. It is as easy to use with a computer as without. It does what it's meant to when it's meant to. I figured I'd write a program to fix the brightness (that modifies the image's colors accordingly).I'm very pleased with it. Overall Review: I spent about 5 hours doing test prints to find an algorithm to fix the brightness so it matches that of the monitor. This is supposedly from the card readers. In addition, when you turn the printer on (when previously off) while your computer is on, you always get an error saying it can't read from a drive and given the option to cancel, continue, or retry. Only the fastest setting prints the colors more accurately, but looks poor as the dots are much more noticeable. Black and shades of gray print correctly, but the more pure the color tone is (white is a shade of gray), the more of an offset there is and this reduces contrast significantly. There's controls for how much ink to use, choosing to print in grayscale, 4 print quality settings, and many more.Ĭons: When printing in color on letter-size paper (97 bright, 24 weight), the color, when printed in the normal and best settings, is up to half as bright as my monitor. Pros: Very fast, tons of options giving lots of flexibility (more than I've ever seen for a single printer). Once the Vista drivers were installed, Vista recognized the printer and everything was added automatically. On a whim, I put the packaged cd in and it told me it only contained drivers for XP/2000, but gave me a link to the Vista drivers so I was pretty impressed with that. I went right to the manufacturer's support site and downloaded the lite drivers for Vista. Overall Review: Those of you wondering if the printer works with Vista can rest easy. I honestly don't understand why printers don't come with USB device cables, but since I had to go buy paper, it wasn't that much of a hassle to buy a cable as well, plus they are pretty cheap. I may have loaded the paper too far in, but it hasn't happened since. The color screen is actually pretty impressive, though I didn't buy the printer soley for picture printing, more for college use.Ĭons: I had some trouble with the print head alignment, there were several paper jams before it was finished. I immediately scanned a few pictures and this was incredibly easy. The printer cartridges are easy to install and the print quality is impressive. I set the whole thing up in about 20 minutes, took more time to clear the space and arrange the wires with my computer set-up than anything else. Pros: This printer was decently priced, came rather quickly and set up fairly easily.
